Coronavirus Update – Masks required on all vehicles

May 11, 2020

UPDATE: On January 29, 2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an Order imposing a mask requirement applicable to public transportation systems, rail, and van, bus and motorcoach service providers to mitigate the risk of COVID-19. The CDC Order implements President Biden’s Executive Order 13998, Promoting COVID-19 Safety in Domestic and International Travel, “to save lives and allow all Americans, including the millions of people employed in the transportation industry, to travel and work safely.”

Masks or cloth face coverings are required for all riders of fixed-route and MITS (download flyer).

Español: Máscaras o cubiertas de tela requeridas para todos los Pasajeros. Vigente desde el Viernes 15 de Mayo.

Thank you for your cooperation to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Keep up with Jefferson Parish by visiting www.jeffparish.net or text JPALERT to 888-777 for daily alerts.

The health and safety of our riders and employees is a top priority. If you are feeling sick or part of the demographic that the CDC categorizes as “at higher risk” of contracting COVID-19 (older adults, people with chronic medical conditions), staying home or self-quarantining is the best thing to do. Riders of MITS (Mobility Impaired Transportation System) who know they are COVID-19 positive that need to be transported to daily routine doctors appointments and dialysis should call their insurance for transportation needs. Acadian Ambulance crews and ambulances are standing by to assist. This is necessary so that individuals who are sick are in the care of trained medical staff. Thank you for understanding as we do our part to help prevent the spread of this virus in our community and make sure all our JeT and MITS riders and employees are protected.

Our Transit Department is working alongside Transdev, health and security officials, and industry leaders for updates and best practices regarding the Coronavirus.

Our Transit Department’s Coronavirus action plan includes the following:

  1. Increasing sanitization efforts, which includes daily cleaning of all 41 buses and 20 paratransit vehicles.
  2. Mounting hand sanitizer dispensers to all Buses and Paratransit vehicles next week.
  3. Regular announcements on all vehicles and on every route to “Wash Hands Often “in both English and Spanish.
  4. Planning for adjusted levels of service and routes, as needed.
